For several reasons involving changes LJ is making to its usability, the mod squad is sadly announcing its resignation. If you would like to take over, please leave a comment, and a mod will get in touch with you with our decision.

It's been a good run, [livejournal.com profile] mash_slash, and I'll deeply miss you.

I don't know how many people would be interested, but I created mash_slash on Dreamwidth. I know we aren't the most active of communities, but having the option seemed a good idea to me. I will still be maintaining this one, with the wonderful assistance of [livejournal.com profile] gamesiplay on tags in particular, but the option on Dreamwidth is now there. Members are more than welcome to post in both places, should you so choose.

(All the info, profile and such, will be entered later, when yours truly doesn't have the death.)

Just getting the community rules consolidated for ease of linking in the updated profile. There are a couple of new points, so please read them over.

Ratings guidelines. )

Header. )

Content warnings. )

Tagging. )

Post deletion. )

Unrelated to all that, I'm working on catching up on tagging and memories, and consolidating the various H/BJ tags into one. Did you know LJ doesn't make that easy? You have to individually retag posts, and since the H/BJ shippers have, oh, five seasons more than H/T shippers, there's a lot of fic.

Okay, since this has happened more than once lately and is really, really bothering me:

Do not delete your posts without checking with a mod first. It makes us doing our jobs a waste of time (I know we're behind, I do, but the point stands) and it means we cannot see what's going on in any posts or comments. So don't do it, period. If I find out it's still happening, I'm not going to be happy. And, like the Hulk, you won't like me when I'm angry.

Guys, I mean it. Don't delete just because a question has been answered, or you don't like feedback, or whatever. Likewise, don't delete comments. If there's a real problem with the comments, like trolling or flaming, screen, freeze, and contact one of us. At least one of us is almost always around by 5:00 PM EST, and we'll deal with it as soon as we can. All our contact info is in the comm profile.

It's that simple. Don't delete. Edit, if you must--for instance, "EDIT: Question answered," or whatever, but do not delete. Any questions?

Hey there. As one of the newer mods, I probably should have made my hello post before this, but, well. Better late then never, right?

Yes, there was a troll. He/she/it has been banned, so that's over. After a bit of discussion, though, we've decided to log IP addresses. Perhaps this will keep future trolls from trying.

Any questions, please refer to the mod post or contact a mod. We'll be happy to answer!

After some discussion with three of my comods, we've reached a consensus: From this point on, all fic rated M, and any fic rated 15+ that contains mature themes (think sex, rape, murder, etc.) should be friends-locked. We'll give reminders about this, of course, but that's the current stance.

We are not requiring a birthdate or age statement. We're nobody's parents. We're just protecting ourselves and the community with the locking.

As always, discussion is more than welcome.

Thank you.

I've been lax about keeping up with memories and tagging, and I'll be the first to admit it. That's not the cause for my current post, though.

I don't know how many of you have been keeping up with LJ's latest issue, so I'll summarize briefly. There's an organization, purportedly for protecting children, called Warriors for Innocence. This organization has handed a list of apparently offensive communities and users to LJ, based on their interests. Many, many communities and users have been summarily banned. One popular example is [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies. [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs discussed it all in much more detail. She has several more relevant links there.

So, my question to you, as a community. I want to safeguard [livejournal.com profile] mash_slash, but I don't want to be a despot about it. What, if anything, do you want me to do? Any and all suggestions and thoughts are welcome. My comods are also in on keeping this community protected, so they'll check here, as well.

I'm working on catching up on memories (because I've been a lame, lazy mod *shame*), and just finished up with January. And hey! Hawkeye/Trapper types, you're (really, we're, but when's the last time I posted fic?) on your second tag. It's trapper/hawkeye, for those interested.

BJ/Hawkeye people, you'll get your fourth tag soon. It'll be bj/hawk. I'm keeping an eye on how close hawk/bj gets to 100.

Okay, you crazy Hawkeye/BJ shippers. Y'all are now on your third tag. From now on, please don't use the hawkeye/bj or bj/hawkeye tag--both of those have been used on one hundred posts, and you can't skip back by more than one hundred.

So the new tag is hawk/bj--which already has twenty uses. Wow, people. You're amazing.

Please welcome [livejournal.com profile] sarcasticsra as my new comod. She's been in the community about as long as I have. When I'm not around, she probably will be, and she knows the comm rules at least as well as I do. Maybe better.

A quick note on content, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] diabolo_girl's post: Any content is acceptable. However, if it contains anything that people may have a problem with, such as rape, kinks, or graphic violence, that must be noted in the header. It's something I will comment about if it isn't noted. The fic should also be appropriately rated based on that content. The ratings guideline is here. Slash should never be a warning. Unless you're like a few people I've known who warn for het--which, come to think of it, is more deserving of a warning in this comm than slash is.

And, inspired by nothing in particular, except possible reactions to such posts: Read the headers. If there's something that's offputting to you, please either skip the post or, if you read it, don't tell the author they shouldn't be writing x content. Constructive criticism is expected and welcome in this community, so authors, if you don't want it, please note that in your header. However, readers, that doesn't make overly harsh or rude comments okay. Not that I'm expecting this to be a problem; it's just a preemptive strike in case there are seriously negative reactions to fic like [livejournal.com profile] diabolo_girl's.

Please don't take this negatively. I adore you guys; this is such an awesome fandom, and I love this community especially. I just don't want problems to arise when it's something that can easily be avoided. As always, you can contact me at any of the mod posts, through this post, or by e-mailing me at hawkeyecat[at]livejournal[dot]com.
