Wow, I've missed a lot, haven't I?

OK, so, I know it's over, and I know I'm sticking my head in, and I know I may be a shit stirrer .... but I gotta say this. And I only gotta say this because it's over and so on and so forth .... although if people are still sore, and therefore cannot construe this as a joke, I totally get it, and a) accept any flames/attacks/rolls-of-eyes/general ignoringness as my due and b) deeply, deeply apologise.

But I think a sign of maturity is the ability to laugh at oneself. And I certainly don't think I'd like to be associated with a place where people can't laugh at themselves. *raises flag of hope. 'Cos I believe in us*

So. Whilst I will keep my own thoughts to myself, I will say ... this whole thing just reminded me of this. Which y'all should have seen anyway. ^^

The really relevant passages (if you don't want to read through the whole thing, cos it is kinda long.) are near the end. But the whole thing is just funny even without any kind of correlation.

And please remember: Joke. Again, I'm sorry if we're still too near the *cough for dramatic effect* "incident" to make them. But hey, the best time to intefere is now!

You...missed quite a flurry. Both of you. Some of it's been deleted, some of it's on people's own journals, but it was one of the bigger messes I've seen in this fandom (which, admittedly, I've only been active in for a year).

It's unfortunate that some of the original ones were deleted, because it would have been funny to go back and look at what people had said, accusations that were thrown, etc. And I say this as someone who was accused of flaming! I'd love to reread my comment, but I've deleted the notification e-mail, and the post is gone.

M*A*S*H? Immune? The fic snobs (myself included) have their standards, and we've made them pretty well known. I think it'll calm down for a while, but a lot of us are also in a much snarkier fandom, and it carries over.

And as far as I can gather, there drama between older fans and newer fans, with middle fans mediating, and ... it got complicated .... But it appears to have died down now. ^^

I don't understand sometimes why people have to argue. I adore Doctor who, and it's been going for 43 years, and all of the new fans fight the old fans, and I just sit in the middle (I've been a fan for about 18-19 years) and look at them all and go, "Each to their own, y'know - if it offends don't read it!"

EXACTLY!!! (I noticed your icon, actually, very cool. ^^) That's EXACTLY right!! I try to follow that policy to the letter. My only frustration is when everywhere I go is swamped with a certain kind of fic ... and I keep reading identical summaries. Then I cry a little. But I wouldn't actually go read and flame. ^^ *winks*

I too am in the middle in this case. I've only been who-ing for about four or five years (with some half-remembered eps when I was a kid) but most of that is older stuff. But I love the newer stuff.

Although in that fandom, I think it's mostly about sex, yes? Whereas here it's ... actually, no, I think it's all the same. ^^ Ah well.

*snicker* Some of the OLD old fans will not watch the new stuff. But I love it. I love it because I remember how who made me feel as a kid, and how the books and the big finish audios helped when I was upset at uni, and everything. And I love how suddenly half my friends list turned around to me and said "Oh, so THIS is why you love this stuff!" - it's just great :')

Yes. Sex, and in a conversation I had the other day, Slash crept into it, but at least the girl was accepting of stuff, and just not-accepting of the doctor being involved. Which is understandable I think. Theres 2 sides to my reading - the side where I will squee over pairings and love to see the doctor have intimate relationships and whatever (mmmm, OT3 bliss) and then theres days when I see the doctor as the same asexual guy he was to me where I was a kid, when he was my hero and Ace was my Heroine. And LOL, whoops, I'm pouring my heart out about the wrong fandom for this com ;)

And tell me about it! Although I managed to convert one member of my flist pre-new series. And so we both got the glory. ^^ (And I will have to check your description. Although, really, so many icons, so few icon spaces... XD)

I know exactly what you mean. I'm in the rather unique position (i think?) of having been shown tapes as a kid and loving it, but missing out until the ABC reran the entire 40 years about four years ago. So I fell in love with it again. But being older, I was also able to see the conflict between asexual doc, who is totally canon, and sexually active doc, who is more than a little bit canon too. And then the new series came along and wow. So I was completely there. ^^ My frustration with new fans came about with three main things. 1) The refusal to admit earlier docs. 2) The refusal to admit later docs (I guess this is just a whole 'a refusal to admit regen in general' thing and 3) A belief that Rose is his OTP 4EVER OMG!!!!!111111 .... I guess that's a bit elitist though. It's just my doctor has relationships with humans ... and has to deal with the pain of them eventually going away. And that's far more interesting, for me. Which says to me that it's as much about characterisation as sex, I guess.

And slash. *grins wickedly* Oh, don't get me started on slash. My first DW pairing was slash. ^^

Ahem. I'm sorry, what was that, dear? These old ears can't hear much. Come and sit down, have some tea. Don't stare at those M*A*S*H fans over there, they don't realise that the Doctor can visit fictional worlds too. So it's completely relevant. No really. No, really. Work with me here... ^^

House! My main fandom of the moment--I write so much there, and I keep slipping into character unintentionally when talking to people. House himself is snarky, sarcastic, and definitely not nice, and he can be very critical in an utterly non-constructive manner.
