I've written a public post on my journal on what I call the essence of fanfic, in response to what has gone down here the lst few weeks and such. Comments and thought are highly welcomed. I started this last night (CET), before I saw that stuff'd been deleted, but most of it is still valid.

HI!!

I'm going to be attenting Zcon next week, and as part of that, I'm on a panel discussing why we love to slash men in the military.

We'll be disscussing Tour of Duty, Combat, The A-Team, some others I don't know about, and of course...M*A*S*H.

I would love to hear some thoughts, ideas and general squee from those of you who, like me, are fans of the show.

Some things I'd like to hear bout:

What's your favorite pairing and why?
Who could you never slash on the show?
Do you get a lot of flack for slashing what so many seem to view as a 'family' show?
How do you feel about that?
What attracted you to the slash component of the show?
What attracts you to a military fandom?
What would you like fans of other military shows to know about this one?
What, if any, do you think are "issues" in this fandom?

Answer any of them, all of them or toss in your own thoughts...any thing you'd like to add is great. Thanks so much!

Last night I was watching something, it could've been just the tvguide channel for all I remember and the guy said something like "Remember when comedies were just funny? Where did those days go? I blame you, Alan Alda!" It was really funny. So I don't slash MASH, (yet?!) while I've loved the show and its characters forever, but I do slash the two cops on Monk have friends who slash Hogan's Heroes, and I even know of friends who've talked about slashing characters on Northern Exposure and Trapper John MD! Would anyone be interested in talking about the differences between slashing dramas/science fiction shows and slashing comedies or dramedies. I slashed a drama for years and am now finding out how different it is to slash a dramedy. I think it's harder to slash a dramedy. It's just as hot, but there are things about it that are more difficult.

It has been said by many that all women need a little black dress in their wardrobe, or the equivalent if you don’t like dresses, in order for their wardrobe to be complete. The sort of dress that accentuates and compliments the wearer on every occasion and is a must have in any wardrobe. It can be worn with all different kinds of accessories, the accessories you choose helping to create a flirty and fun look or a serious look. A dress that can be worn to both solemn formal occasions to the most joyful and fun event making it very versatile. In the same way that is what the little black dress of slash does. The stories with him covering a wide range of solemn to the joyful, flirty and fun to the serious, and everything in between, making him one of the most popular characters to write in fandom. He looks good with everyone, accentuating and complimenting them just as they bring out his beauty. In short, he is everything you could want in a little black dress of slash. rest of the essay )

I had to wibble somewhere and yay, this is the place! Aussie free to air just played one of my favourite ever BJ episodes - the one where Erin calls Radar "Daddy" by mistake, and it cuts poor Beej to the heart, and Hawkeye gets to be there for him. I had it on tape years ago and lost it, and now I have it again! Mineminemineminemineminemineminemineminemine!

Hehehehe. Happydance :-))

Hey everyone, I don't post much at all here but couldn't pass this up...I came across a couple of hilariously slashy moments on the last few days' MASH episodes. I'm terribly sorry if this's been posted before.

From HEPATITIS:

Hawkeye: "Great, awesome, now show me your tongue."
BJ: "My tongue? That's small potatoes. I'll show you my butt!"
(BJ half-strips, then begins waltzing around with a nurse while Hawkeye chases him around with a hand on his bum)

From SOUVENIRS:
BJ and Hawkeye are leading Stratton out of Post-Op, and Hawkeye is the last to leave, behind BJ. His hand comes up to seemingly brush the curtain aside, but it looks (and sounds) like he smacks Beej's arse.

Er, anyways, enjoy.

xx Tom

All right I'm having a conversation with Hawkeyecat and we're trying to figure out just what it is that's making Hawkeye make this face.

So here's the deal, tell us what you think is going on. ^_^

Het/Slash

Hi, I've been thinking about what slash and het writers thought what happened after the war and I might be generalising here but het writers seems to have Hawkeye(or someone else)marrying Margaret or an original character(Mary-Sue)and he has no issues or has been affected by his breakdowns. In fact, he seems to be fine.
But in Slash, Hawkeye or any other character seems to be much more affected and I've seen many fanfics where he has commited suicide.
So, why is that? Is it because you'd be hit probably much harder if your lover left without saying goodbye? Or is it because slash writers(TakenHawkeye and HawkeyesMartini)have so much more insight to the characters?
I'd be really pleased if I can get your point of views on this and again, I apoligise profusely if I have got it wrong, generalised or caused offence to Twilight_Mash

I searched a way back, but didn't find a post like this, so I guess I'll post and hope I don't incur the wrath of the moderator.

I was watching Love Story a couple of days ago, and comtemplating writing a huge post on Trapper/Hawkeye vs. Hawkeye/BJ (dynamics and pairings). I never got around to it, but it made me think:

What is it that attracts us to different pairings? I'm largely a BJ girl, but the chemistry between Trapper and Hawkeye is palable, fun to play with. BJ/Hawkeye, on the other hand, has huge angst potential.

But what makes you love that one pairing more than any other? Why does Klinger/Winchester inspire you more than Klinger/Radar for example? Why do you love Frank slash pairings?

Curiously a-waiting your replies.

Note: I am not trying to start a shipper war. So far, what I've seen of the M*A*S*H fandom has been calm, civilized and mature, but who knows? ;)

The time has come once more. This time, though, in honor of the not-so-recent release of season six on DVD.

I'm sure most (safe to say the majority) of those reading this have seen the episode "Fallen Idol". A bit of controversy has sprung from that episode regarding who was in the right, and who was in the wrong, and many arguments have made themselves known.

So, as can probably be surmised, my discussion question for this time around is who do you think was in the right regarding the argument between Radar and Hawkeye in the episode "Fallen Idol"? Was Radar right to expect so much of Hawkeye, and to act so disappointed (and then later, tell him off for being told off)? Or was Hawkeye in the right for snapping at Radar, and having so much expected of him too much?

Or were they both right and wrong in their own ways? What do you think? And more importantly why? What are your thoughts on this episode in general? On Radar and Hawkeye's actions? Let me (and others) know, and here's hoping much discussion will come about.

Yet once more, time for another conversation topic. As usual, this is in hopes of bringing out those lurking about, giving others reason to express their opinions, and initiating some conversation.

This time, though, it's a bit different. I want you to think, for a moment, about BJ, Trapper, and Hawkeye meeting after the war -- years after, a week after, whatever you wish. Thinking about it? Now, run with it. Yes, this is the topic. The three of them, BJ, Trapper, and Hawkeye meeting. What do you think would happen? Why? Who would like who, dislike who, who would have changed, what happens? You can approach this in a fictional story manner, in a personality manner, in any way you wish.

The question is, what do you think would happen if those three met after the war?

And, to fit the point of this community, what would happen if two of the three were, or had been at one time, involved? You don't necessarily have to use this question.

I'm hoping this is clear enough, and that some form of conversation can be expressed. If this isn't as inspiring as I hope, let me know. Any confusion, ask me.

Here's hoping discussion will occur.

Farewell.
