Ah, Friday the 13th. I guarantee bad things will
happen to you today.
Lucky-
So this is my response.
A post-ep for "Abyssinia, Henry".
Thanks to Iolanthe for the very quick beta.
By Douglas Spencer, who owns nothing.
Lucky for him to be going home, they'd been saying not that long ago. They'd been happy for him. They felt as if some of his luck would be rubbing off on them.
And now, as the priest looked out at the faces before him, faces of people who wanted him to make sense of the news, no-one was feeling lucky at all.
He looked down at his text, Matthew chapter five, "Lucky are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted", and wrinkled his nose. He looked at the faces again. Not a lot of comfort there.
He picked up his bible, began to pronounce the opening word, and it caught in his throat. He looked at the faces again. He saw the devastated lost look on the face of Trapper.
He paused.
Trapper John.
And then he flipped forward a thin handful of pages, saw the text, and smiled.
"The Revelation of John," he said, "Chapter fourteen and verse thirteen." He continued from memory, with the smile still in his voice. "Lucky are those who die in the service of the LORD. They will enjoy rest from their labours, because the results of their service go with them."
