Fic help!

Okay, M*A*S*H slashers, I need some help. Especially from those of you who are very well versed in canon. I need to know the following things:

1) Approximate age when BJ and Hawkeye left Korea. I know how old the *actors* were when the show went off the air, but I also know they were playing characters much younger than the actors actually are.

2) What was Hawkeye's medical specialty? I think I know, but I'm not 100% sure.

3) What was BJ's medical specialty? Again, I think I know, but I want this fic to be as close to canon as a slash fic can be.

1) BJ comes at 28 (I think; need to rewatch my DVDs); depending on the timeline you look at, he's there for a year or two, so probably leaves at 30. Hawkeye is...30, I think, when the show starts, so he leaves at 33.

2) Hawkeye is certified in general and thoracic surgery--which makes the whole, "Charles is a thoracic surgeon, and therefore better," a little iffy.

3) I don't believe he had a specialty yet, but again, I'm not sure. (I'm also not much of a BJ fan. Others who are should be able to help you out.)

Yeah, BJ comes at age 28, in 1952 (according to Welcome to Korea...)

Hawkeye, in the book, is 28. I put him at 30 in '52, because that seems to fit with the show.

Unsure about their specialties, though since Beej was just out of residency, I dunno whether he'd have one.

I agree that BJ was 28 at the beginning of his time in Korea, although going by A War For All Seasons he had to have gotten there pre-1951. (BTW, came up with a great post-ep for that in the shower this morning) And Hawkeye was just about 3 years older, just about the age difference between AA and MF.

Hawk was a thoracic surgeon and I think BJ was general surgery, but had a leaning or was going to be in orthapedic surgery.

Yeah, A War for All Seasons, aside from being one of my least favorites, is also very wacky about dates. I tend to think that that was the one that was out of wack, rather than all the rest.

Yeah, it is VERY out of wack. (Come on how easy would it have been to make it 1952-1953?) But, it is one of my favorite episodes, so I tend to stick to it at least a little bit. Though in my head it is usually 1952 they are talking about.

I have my own personal timeline to go with MASH that completely goes against the warped dates in the show.

The original cast arrived in about September of '50 and after a year Trapper left and Henry...you know.

In September of '51 BJ and Potter arrive and about March of '52 Charles arrives (this obviously doesn't go with the Margaret/Penobscott engagement but meh...)

Radar goes home around November '52 and the war obviously ends in July '53.

So that's my personal timeline and I know it doesn't really fit but it works for me.
I agree with everyone else on BJ, he was 28 when he arrived and 30 when he left.
Hawkeye I believe was 30 when he arrived and 33 when he left.
