To tell the truth, I've never been satisfied with this fandom. In the "hay day" of the Yahoo! group, I was in a state of constant annoyance. Like in every fandom, the OTPs received the most feedback. Also, we had BNFs. If there is anything I hate, it is BNF-ism. It is such junior high bullshit. Not to sound like Karl Marx, but there were the Haves and the Have Nots. The BNFs and OTPers were the Haves and the "rare" shippers were the Have Nots.

The tiny revival on lj was close to perfection, but we were so few in numbers, and nobody really gave and feedback.

This recent restart has started an all-out gang war-- except really flamboyant. Kinda like West Side Story.

Let me ask you all-- can't we all just get along? Without a caste system? Without favoritism?

I propose equality. Everyone is equal. Nobody is a n00b and nobody is a snob. It'll be like Communism, minus the whole evil dictator thing.

Whaddaya say?

I know there is the issue of Just for Fun Fic and Great Literary Masterpiece Fic and feedback.

Umm, dude? This is why we have that little patch of writing before the story. Just write what type of fic you have written and specify how you would like to receive feedback, if any at all.

Please forgive my stupidity, but what is a BNF?

Big Name Fan.

And, to be honest, the OTP's always get more feedback, simply because they're more popular. It sucks, but it's true. Most people ship because they see chemistry between two specific characters, and they'll read the fic concerning these character predominantly.

Thank you! I had no idea what BNF meant! *and the haze clears ...*

And I agree about the OTP's and feedback. For the longest time, I would *only* read and FB fics about BJ and Hawkeye. Then I decided to branch out to Hawkeye and Trapper. And you know what I found? Some really awesome fics! And after all of the hoopla that happened here a few weeks ago (in which I was directly involved) ... I decided to stop being closed-minded about the pairings I read and read a Mulcahy/Klinger fic. I said I would NEVER read a fic that slashed either Klinger or Charles. And guess what? The fic I read ... Mulcahy/Klinger ... was actually very VERY good.

So I'm glad that I decided to get past my OTP and read other fics :) It really does broaden the spectrum of pairings ...

If I answer this now, I'll be brusque and most probably an assclown, but I'll answer with some thought tomorrow (CET)...

Not to be argumentative, but the idea just won't work. I'd love it to, but it won't.

OTPS will receive more feedback because they're more popular. BNFs will always exist in every fandom. I've been involved with various fandoms for four years now, and there have always been BNFs.

My own popularity is always very low. My record high for any kind of review was 25. I just accept the fandom world as it is.

Communism never works. Read Animal Farm.

Reading this over, it sounds very bitchy. I'm not trying to be. I apologize and hope no one is offended.

>>Although, fandom Communism would be funny. "Two men good. One man, one woman bad." <<

Heh!

>>I'm proposing that we stop acting like assholes to one another.<<

And again I say ... WORDY MCWORD!

Not bitchy. Truthful.

I think what has to happen is that both parts of the fandom at large need to realize that the other side exists and deserves to exist. One side can't force their ideals or standards on the other and vice versa. I don't think there's anything wrong with people saying "this is what I want to read in a fic" or "this is what I expect from a fic" ... BUT ... they also have to realize that not everyone is going to write their own fics based on someone else's standards. Some may ... some may not. I always assumed that's what the Author's Note was for at the beginning of a fic. To let people know what to expect from the fic ... and if it doesn't fit into their "ideal" fic category, then they can choose not to read it. I do it all the time in other fandoms.

This fandom is very small and pretty inactive. I, personally, am just happy that it exists and that there are some author's out there willing to write M*A*S*H fics!

Hopefully that made sense ... if not, I am pretty sick right now. Got the flu. Can't seem to kick it ...

I'm getting pretty sick of people calling this a "bitch fest", etc. I honestly don't think it was. I know it sounds like I'm whining, but it pisses me off when people say others are over reacting just because they state their opinions. Oh and btw, I'm pretty sure most of us have gotten over it by now. So I don't understand why people are still telling us to "chill."

But anyway. I don't think anyone really got the point from my post (Why, I'll never understand..) but my point was that we should just treat everyone here equally.

And Communism never works because no matter what, somebody's gonna get power hungry. But that's really off topic, so nevermind.

I'm hoping I'm not sounding completely bitter, but I sort of am. I'm really confused as to why people are a) complaining about a "bitch fest" that doesn't even exist and never really did and b) calling this community inactive. Because everyone's saying that and honestly, I think it's very active.

People are naturally too snobby. Hell, I didn't even read all the comments you've gotten so far. I just wanted to say the whole dictator thing was Leninism, and technically we don't know if communism ever works because it's never come about in the actual Marxian progression.
