mash_slash's 'First Day of Summer' challenge, #6, the iPod shuffle. This probably needs more backstory, but even though I'd done the research, I could never get it to come out in a way that didn't seem contrived... so for the purpose of this, we're going to just go over the backstory here in the author's notes.
Basically, Father Mulcahy has been laicized. I'm probably not right about this, but being deaf is an impediment for the Priesthood (meaning he could never join the Priesthood in the first place if he was born deaf) and that'd be a reason for him to be granted a laicization. He's probably also requested a dispensation from his vow of celibacy.
Sidney Freedman is divorced. And that's the backstory.
Hartley Rathaway is an original character in the M*A*S*H universe, but he's a transplant of the Pied Piper from the DC Universe. He's a master of sound technology, so I thought he'd be fun to add in as the doctor here. I only added this note in case there were fellow DC fans who know him and would call me out on my OMC. :D
