A Whisper ...
A whisper might be all that I can steal
Amongst the bloody chaos of the war
To try to tell you how I think I feel
And what I think my life is waiting for.
A whisper might be all I need to use
Before the choppers fall upon your ears
To try to tell you who I want to choose
To take me through my still-remaining years.
What use are silent whispers of the mind
Which, never voiced, can never reach their mark?
And how can silent whispers ever find
Their way to the attention of a clerk?
My silent whispers never work, it's true:
And silent screams are ineffective, too.
