They had had to hide what they were to each other for more years than they cared to recall. Only Honoria and Max's uncle Abdul knowing of their true relationship the first few years. Being disowned by their fathers', Charles' losing his position at Boston General and having to settle for being a general practitioner. Max being able to find work as a costume designer for plays, but his other business ventures never getting off the ground.
Both only attaining their dreams recently, Charles finally offered a position at Boston General but choosing to become a conductor for the Boston Philharmonic. Max operating a successful Internet business. All of their friends and family there for them as Charles and Max stood side by side on May 17, 2004 and married in Boston's city hall. Finally getting that piece of paper they had wanted for over 50 years. Their union blessed by a frail ex-priest and accepted by all they loved.
