Sidney Freedman

Hi there, I need to know something for a fic. Was Sidney Freedman's cultural background or faith ever alluded to on the show? I seem to remember a discussion between him and Francis Mulcahy in which Sidney's beliefs were briefly touched on, but maybe it was a part of a fic. So, any ideas what his cultural background is? Can you back up your theories with dialogue in one of the episodes?

Sidney, I'm certain, was Jewish. I don't know that they ever came out and said it, but there were hints. For example, in the episode "Hawk's Nightmare," in response to Hawkeye's question about whether he's going crazy, Sidney tells Hawkeye, "No, a bit confused, a little farshimmelt (Yiddish for "confused") is all."

Darn it, I know there's more than that but it's late and I can't think of any others.

P.S. Are you writing a Sidney story? If so, yay! There is just not enough Sidney fic out there. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I'm planning a short fic featuring the sadly-underused Major Freedman for this year's [livejournal.com profile] daysofawesome Jewish character ficathon.

So I guess you could say I have sort of a vested interest in Sidney's Jewishness. ^_^
