I've always thought that part of the reason hawk told Charles about his dad, and not BJ, was for the very reason you said--it would make it real. and having bj's worry would be almost too much, although it would be well-intentioned. i liked the way you wrote this, very stark and raw. bj's hurt is real, as is hawkeye's defensiveness. very well done.
