This was really lovely. You have a lot of just beautiful metaphors in here (the letter that doesn't quite make the distance stood out in particular), and the way the narrative complements the dialogue, showing that what they say is not at all what they mean, but still they understand one another in glances and gestures and everything written between the lines -- very, very nice. Great dialogue, great characterization, great pacing. Just lovely.
